Strambinello, Torino · a family vineyard

Small batches, an open table, and a salamander on the label.

A boutique winery in the hills north of Turin. Everything is grown, picked and made here. Come for a tasting, or spend a Sunday painting, drawing and printing in the vineyard — in English or Italian, whichever you prefer.

Who you'll be with

Not a cellar door. Somebody's home.

Luca’s family has worked the Il Pirondel vineyard for close to three hundred years. He makes the wine himself, in the cantina behind the house, and he’ll tell you exactly what went right and wrong with each vintage — which is not something you get on a coach tour. Production is small and every bottle is estate grown. There isn’t a bigger version of this, and that’s rather the point.

Kirsty came from England and stayed. She runs the creative workshops out in the vineyard, or in the old wine cellar if it’s raining: yoga, drawing, painting and botanical printing on linen and tote bags. Everything is taught in both English and Italian, and everyone is welcome, whatever they may think of their own talents. It’s a chance to let your inner creativity blossom.

From a guest

To Luca and Kirsty. The experience we had is one you can never forget, and we will tell everyone we meet about it. It is not a once-in-a-lifetime thing — it felt more like coming home to a place you did not know existed.

You did not show us the wine, or let us taste it, because you wanted us to buy. You did it because you love to. You gave us something to eat to show the love and warmth you carry with you. We did not only buy the wine because we liked it, but because we wanted to remember it for the rest of our lives.

It is people like you two who give pure Italian wine made out of love. We hope you keep the family business running for many more years, and that you give every person who enters the room the same warm and living place we were lucky to receive tonight.

Keep the kindness and love you gave us today.
